A change of scenery

The first stage of The Ukrainian Cup in memory of Ukrainian fighter pilot Valentin Bondarenko is finished. This traditional annual contest moved to the suburbs of Lviv. It was the first test of the new airfield, which is going to be 2015 used for the European Championships for Space Models.

From 21-28 August 2015 the FAI European Championships for Space Models will take place here. Noosphere and the Spacemodelling Sport Federation of Ukraine, which are the primary organizers, recently received work that they will host the 2016 World Championships during the FAI session as well.

Earlier these colorful landscapes were just pasturing Velykiy Doroshiv’s horses. Nothing else was had gone here for years. But in the beginning of May 2015, the engines started and the massive rocket-plane wings of the S8D/P and S8E/P models appeared in the sky.

The participants of the first stage of The Ukrainian Cup quickly noticed the many advantages of the new airfield. Though this place has always been farm field, its turf is excellent for all kinds of aviation sports activities. Wind direction at this point of the Lviv region also plays into the hands of competitors.

This time, it helped Alexander Golovin in particular. The amateur rocketry enthusiast finished first in both classes.
